ABOUT
Hello, my name is John von Pamer. I am editorial/advertising photographer and art director and I split my time between Los Angeles, CA and Brooklyn, NY. I started shooting professionally in 2011 when I shot the Franny's Cookbook and I've worked in graphic design since high school when I ran a printing press to help publish a music 'zine.
I grew up in the Virginia suburbs of DC and made excellent use of my formative years by skateboarding and watching punk rock bands. I wanted to be a stunt man but studied painting and art history instead. I played drums in the indie rock band called Tsunami, which was huge for a tiny subset of English music critics. In 1996, I moved to New York City and worked in a truly wide assortment of design jobs (e.g. I was employed by SPIN Magazine and Morgan Stanley's art department at the same time) before turning to photography.
The “von” in von Pamer is usually a nobility particle but in my case was bestowed upon me by the staff of American PHOTO Magazine during the seven years when I was Associate Art Director there. My forefathers are butchers, those touched by the spirit and heavy drinkers--not, that I know of, kings and queens.
